Brighton Amber Ale

Brighton Amber Ale
Well I thought I would give this beer thing a try so here is our very first attempt. This will be a 2 stage fermentation from our brew kit.

6.6 LbsMuntons Amber LME
16 oz2 Row American grain malt
3/4 ozFuggles Hops
2 pktSimple dry ale yeast (med-low floc)
6 galBottled Spring water
1 1/4 cupCorn Sugar for priming

Add 2 gallons of cold water to the brew pot bring to 160F. Add grain to muslin bag. Steep grain at 160F for 20 min. Add liquid malt extract, Fuggles hops; boil for 45 minutes. Remove from heat. Cool wort to 80-90F. Add 4 gallons of water to the primary fermenter then cooled wort. Pitch yeast. Ferment until finished gravity has been reached. Utilize a 2 stage fermentation method.

Our original gravity was 1.038. ABV estimate 3.6% - 4.2%

And so it begins

Today I woke up and decided to give this brewing thing a try. So I took a ride up to Woburn and picked up a brew kit. The contents of the kit were:

7 1/2 primary fermenter
6 gallon carboy
Large funnel with screen
2 plastic bristle brushes
Hydrometer
Thermometer
plenty of 1/4" plastic hose
c-brite cleanser
2 cases of empty bottles
50 bottle caps
Two handle capper
2 fermentation locks
2 stoppers
and our first batch of beer (what was to be later known as brighton amber ale

In addition to the parts it was time to get a couple of recipes: Sam Adams Clone (Samual Jackson Ale) and Raspberry Wheat
